The Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program began in April 1984 as a special project under the Frederick County 4H Horse and Pony Club. The program is incorporated in the State of Maryland as a non-profit organization. We provide a seven week session of riding instruction each spring and fall at no charge to students. The program always has a waiting list of applicants, but our enrollment is limited by money, the availability of volunteers and the time available to hold classes when students can attend. Since 1990 we have been sending athletes to the Maryland State Summer Olympic Games held in Towson, Maryland to compete in the Equestrian Events.

THE STAFF

DEBBIE ENDLICH - Owner/Operator

Debbie has owned and operated Silverado Stables as a boarding facility since 1981. Being a past 4H Horse and Pony Club Leader, Silverado has become a boarding facility for families.

Debbie began volunteering for therapeutic riding in 1983, working in the ring as a side walker and/or leader. In 1988 she became certified in Basic Therapeutic Riding Instruction and began teaching.

In 1986, Debbie became a Certified Centered Riding Level 1 Instructor. She is currently the President of Therapeutic Riding.

BOBBIE DENN - Occupational Therapist

SUE SIX - Pediatric Therapist

Sue has worked as a pediatric therapist for 25 years. She was originally involved in a therapeutic riding program in Massachusetts for 1 year and then with Silverado Stables for approximately 5 years. She is presently taking riding lessons from Debbie to improve her skills and get a better understanding of what we are asking our students to do. She has two children, ages 19 and 17.

NANCY MASCHMIER - Occupational Therapist

AMANDA LIPAN - Instructor

CHYRIL AYOTTE - Instructor

She has been with FC4HTRP since 1985. She has worked as a volunteer and barn manager and in 1988 took the Instructor's Courses, which put her in one of the center spots ever since. She is presently art department chair, photography and sometimes arts teacher at Middletown High School. She resides with her husband Don, who also volunteers with the program, in Johnsville. Her horse Sienna is in residence at Silverado.
