Welcome to the Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program

Our Mission is to provide Frederick County, Maryland citizens who have medically certified mental, physical, and/or emotional disabilities with equestrian activities to learn basic horsemanship skills, improve physically with better muscle tone, balance, and posture, and encourage their emotional well being by building self-confidence and self-esteem—the I Can Do It attitude.

Feature Box

We proudly provide a safe and positive horseback riding experience for disabled citizens of Frederick County.

The Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding Program began in April 1984 as a special project under the Frederick County 4H Horse and Pony Club. The program is incorporated in the State of Maryland as a non-profit organization. We provide a seven week session of riding instruction each spring and fall at a nominal fee to our students. The program always has a waiting list of applicants, but our enrollment is limited by money, the availability of volunteers and the time available to hold classes when students can attend
